Dr Huq MP told MyLondon: “At a time of national crisis we’ve tried to be a constructive yet broadly supportive opposition.

“We will consider Boris Johnson’s proposals, but increasingly I’m worried about a lack of transparency and strategy in this plan.

“Our increasingly inept misfiring government seems to lurch from crisis to crisis leaving it a genuine question whether they’ve actually got a plan to get control of this virus, to protect jobs or regain public trust.

“We have tried to give the Prime Minister the benefit of the doubt, but it increasingly feels like the Prime Minister is several steps behind the curve and playing catch up with a virus that he lost control of long ago.”

She added: “We need clarity on: the criteria for ‘moving’ areas up or down the tier system, whether there is scientific evidence to support the 10pm hospitality curfew, and how livelihoods are expected to stay afloat.

“We didn’t need to go back to square one. The government’s serial incompetence has let the nation down.”
