Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, said: “At a time when families across Ealing, Acton and Chiswick are facing real worry over rising bills, our next Prime Minister has had more to say about cutting tax for huge corporations and culture war issues than what she’s going to do about the cost-of-living crisis affecting every household.

“During the seemingly endless leadership campaign, Liz Truss failed to set out a plan on the single-biggest issue facing the public, creating a huge amount of uncertainty for businesses and families alike. I’m not convinced she grasps the scale of the crisis ahead of us or has the mettle to deal with it ‒ she’s continuity Boris, offering more of the same tired ideas that got us into this mess in the first place.

“Liz Truss needs to stop delaying and ensure no one pays a penny more on their energy bill this winter, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas companies. I will be holding her Government to account every step of the way.”
